More good news flowing

More good news seems to be flowing to me this month and last. Thanks be to God.

Last morning, I just opened up my uni email to have a check whilst I was at work. My eyes opened wide when I saw the title "Scholarship Offer".

Opening the email, I got the great news that I have been offered a Commerce Honours Scholarship offer worth $5000, paid in two instalments in May and October.

That is just great news!

It is actually my first scholarship ever, period.

So you can imagine how happy I was. The first person I actually told was someone at work just because I saw him first. But after that I started telling a few of my good friends, and promised them that a treat would be on me!

Who wouldn't be happy at such news?

Who wouldn't be happy at such a string of news? First I got 2 subject prize awards which gave me money, and now suddenly more money.

Previously I was worried that I could not manage to pay off all my uni fees on my own and might need to ask Dad for some help. But this time around, I managed to do it!

And then later on in the same day, I got the news that I had been offered an interview for a tutoring position for the subject Corporate Finance, the subject at which I got one of the subject prizes for.

Does good news come this often? I seriously doubt so. It was probably because of God's gift and what we sow, we reap in later periods.

I have not expected this, and would not change my expectations in the future.

At least, for now, I am glad. =)

A very surprising award

Today I opened yet another mail from university...

Surprise surprise.

I got another subject prize!!

I am very happy with that, however, this time I am sharing the subject prize with 4 other people.

Not that I mind, because I got the membership for the Economic Society of Australia as a result! This is for the subject Macroeconomics. =)

I cannot believe that God has blessed me so much! 2 subject prizes in a semester is something I have NOT dreamt of.

Can the future be better than this?

We shall see.

At the present, I really thank God for all His blessing onto me. I feel that all good things come from Him.

Australian Open 2010

Today I woke up with a call by Kelvin at 8am and he was asking me if I wanted to go watch the Aust Open exhibition charity match for only 10 bucks. I was so sleepy, and I just told him an immediate no and later hung off the phone.

5 mins later my brain was working again, and I quickly came to my senses, called him back and off we went to the Aust Open exhibition match!

It was an exciting event for all of us, Kelvin also managed to invite a lot of people as well. I did my bit as well and managed to invite Li Hong and her friend along. I think this was an event nobody should miss!

It was a long queue outside but we finally managed to get inside the Rod Laver Arena after a wait that didn't seem that long, but actually took quite long. It was because we had so many lovely friends whom we could just chat with and time would really fly.

Inside the Rod Laver Arena, we watched as 16,000 people filled the stadium and we waited excitingly for all the star players to come.

The star players that came to the event were people like Nadal, Federer, Hewitt, Roddick, Serena Williams, Djokavic (I hope I got his name right!) and a few others whom were pros but I didnt know their names!

The whole event itself was quite funny, as they tried to put on a tennis show for us and entertain us with their matches (which was real of course), but every tennis pro was given a microphone next to their mouth and they could chat to each other and the whole audience could hear them. Some of them have a really good sense of humour and managed to crack up many jokes.

The crowd and us were enjoying it alot!

The matches were soon underway, and we managed to see some real pro tennis shots. It was amazing really, as Nadal managed to one time serve up to 200 km per hour, which I reckon is really fast!

We also got to see a lot of Federer's awesome moves and why he is the greatest tennis player yet.

All of them were really fit and fast on their feet and just knew what to do at the right time.

Overall, the experience was wonderful and I had a great Sunday out!

The whole event lasted just a little over 1 hour and 30 minutes. Too bad it didn't last longer like a real tennis event.

All this just for 10 bucks, it was the best 10 bucks I ever spent! Looking forward to more bargains like this in the future. Have to thank Kelvin for this.

Hot temperature

As recently as two days ago, the temperature in Melbourne was blazing hot! It was really incredible to see the temperature rise up to 43 degrees celcius. I was at work actually, and even with aircond I could still feel the heat. I just cannot imagine how people can survive outside without aircond. How they must be wishing that the day would just end.

I was actually observing the temperature change from morning to evening, not because work was too free, but it was interesting watching the temperature go up, up and up when you thought it has reached pretty high highs already.

When I left the office at 7 something pm that day, it was still really hot, around 40 degrees celcius. And wearing my suit has made it quite unbearable. It felt like a spa outside plus wearing a suit on. How wonderful. Luckily though, the few days after that day wasn't too bad. Now it is actually below 20 degrees celcius. The temperature in Melbourne is wild indeed.

Just yesterday night a group of us were over at my buddy's house playing poker after work. It was a good experience, I placed third! Need to do better next time though! I am quite happy with my poker playing skills so far though. We went home quite late and am lacking a bit of sleep at the moment. I shall go and sleep soon. It will be another long night tomorrow with dinner with Amanda, Kelvin and the rest. Good times!

Day out in Melbourne

It was quite a good day today!

First, I went out for drinks with my old friend Li Hong at Lygon. Have not actually caught up with her for quite awhile already, must be like 6 months or something. We stopped by a gelato shop in Melbourne, and must have been chatting for over an hour.

Later, I headed down to the city to meet up with Kelvin, Jolene and Pei Yee. Bumped into Kelvin on the tram on Bourke St, what a coincidence! We went for dinner at Springvale. The restaurant was pretty far away from the train station and we had to walk quite a bit. But it was good trying something new so far away! Exploration success.

Then, we went back to Kelvin's house and had a good game of poker. I was the first to be out and had to drink 2 bottles of beer, not much I know but that was my punishment. It was really fun though and I had a good time. Then going home I took the night rider for the second time in my life. It was a pretty fast ride this time and pleasant.

Now I am finally back home after like what must've been a 12 hour outing. This was an enjoyable day.

I'm a Left For Dead 2 fan!

Recently, I was bored at home, and realised that I have not bought a single computer game for ages. It mmust have been like 4 years or something like that. I was working too hard I felt.

So off I went to JB Hi Fi and looked around for some games. I stumbled upon this new game, Left For Dead 2. I had previously played L4D 1 but wondering how much good this second version would be.

In short, I wasn't disappointed at all! Totally loved it. For those who would like to know, it is a game about 4 survivors trying to hang on in a world full of zombies. Hence killing zombies is the only way to survive. Each campaign is unique, and there is always a sense of panic when playing the game. That is what makes it so intense, what makes it so nice to play!

There are four different modes to try out, you can even be the zombies and try to kill the four survivors, how interesting!

If you like a very exciting first person shooter game, I recommend you try out L4D 2! The name itself is interesting to me. "Left for Dead" means that you are left out of the escape to survive for yourself, to not become prey to the Dead, which are what they call the zombies.

The very act of surviving in the game makes it fun. There are tonnes of weapons, melee or ranged, that you can use to defend yourselves. What is best about it is that you can put it as this: four survivors vs 10 million zombies, they are going to need a lot more zombies. =P

One of the most interesting games yet!

10 things I want to do in 2010

Happy New Year everyone! I remember in 1999, which seemed not too long ago, I was just in Std.5 still schooling in Sri Cempaka. Everything seemed to have progressed a lot since then, things have become more advanced and modern, just take a look at the movies and you will see how far we have progressed in terms of technology.

I am glad that I live to see the day of 1st January 2010. Who knows how fast time will pass and it will be 2020 already. This new year's day has been quiet for me, as I was supposed to go out to Federation Square in Melb, but alas it was raining, hence decided not to go out after all.

Since it is 2010, for the fun of it, I would like to do 10 things which would sort of be at the back of my mind as I go ahead my business in the beautiful year of 2010. These 10 things should be something fun, exciting and challenging, and then at the end of 2010 I will review these 10 things to see how much of it I have actually accomplished!

Here is my list of the 10 things I would like to see done in 2010:

1. Own a car in Melbourne, can be first hand or second hand, but need to get a car!

2. Join a poker tournament in Melbourne, not a playful one, but an actual poker tournament with people whom I don't know.

3. Give a public speech in front of at least 100 people, it can be about any topic and any duration, as long as it is a public speech.

4. Treat at least up to 10 students to coffee and get to know them better, lending a hand and seeing how I can help in order to be a better tutor.

5. Plan an event for a friend, it can be a birthday/farewell/special occasion, as long as I do the hard work of organising it for him/her.

6. Join and be involved in 2 new clubs in uni that I have had previously no connection with, just to put myself out there to learn the most I can.

7. Participate in a charity drive that lasts at least the whole day without expecting anything in return.

8. Finish reading any 10 books about finance/business by the end of the year.

9. Be able to speak at least basic mandarin to someone fluent in mandarin without the help of a friend in speaking it.

10. Learn how to cook a traditional Malaysian dish.

With these goals in mind, may 2010 be a successfull and prosperous one for anyone out there who has goals as well (including myself =P) and let it be an exciting year for all where plans don't go according to plans!
